Blue plaque unveiled to celebrate work of David Mocatta

Mayor Cllr Carol TheobaldBrighton & Hove City Mayor Councillor Carol Theobald today unveiled a Heritage Blue Plaque at 38-39 Devonshire Place celebrating the work of David Mocatta. Mocatta – favoured pupil of neo-classical architect, Sir John Soane - transformed 38 Devonshire Place in 1838. Originally a modest square structure designed to serve Brighton’s earliest Jewish community, Mocatta endowed the building with some of the city’s finest neo-classical plasterwork and ornate architectural features of the highest order. Sophie Curtis Property have recently completed the sympathetic conversion of this building into nine apartments.

 

  

Sophie Curtis Property recognised in Sussex Heritage Trust awards

Sophie Curtis receiving award from Lord Lloyd of Berwick Sophie Curtis Property has been recognised with a Highly Commended award at the Sussex Heritage Trust 2007 Awards for their work at 38-39 Devonshire Place. The award was presented to Sophie Curtis by Lord Lloyd of Berwick, President of the Trust. Originally Brighton’s first purpose built synagogue, this Regency Grade 2 listed building had fallen into disrepair and has been sympathetically converted into nine spacious, light filled, highly specified apartments.
